Episode #8: Pal O' Mine

Original Broadcast Date:  1955-11-19
Show Plot:
This episode begins with Alice making fruit punch in the Kramden apartment. Trixie enters telling Alice that Norton is throwing a party for a promoted coworker, Jim McKeaver. Trixie also feels bad that the Kramdens are not invited. Alice understands, because the party is only for Ed's coworkers. Norton enters and shows Alice the present that he bought for Jim - a ring. Inscribed on the inside of the ring is, "To a great pal, from Ed Norton". Alice agrees to gift wrap the present for Norton. Ed and Trixie go back to their apartment. Ralph comes home from work, exhausted. While Alice is looking for wrapping paper, Ralph finds the ring, reads the inscription, and assumes the ring is meant for him. He puts the ring on and admires it. Alice comes in from the bedroom and breaks the news to Ralph - the ring is not for him. Upset, Ralph tries to remove the ring, but it is stuck. Norton returns to pick up the wrapped ring, but Alice delivers the bad news. Ed decides to bring Jim down to Ralph's apartment to show him the ring, which is still stuck on Ralph's pinky.

The next day, Norton returns the chair he borrowed, and asks Alice if his boss bring his wife over to see the ring. Alice says that it is not a good idea because of Ralph's hurt feelings. Norton leaves saying that he will be right back to get ralph to go bowling. Ralph comes home and says that he is not going to go bowling with Norton ever again. When Ed returns, Ralph tells Norton to leave and that he is never doing anything with him again. Trixie enters the apartment and tells Norton that there is a sewer emergency in the neighborhood, and that the company called him because Ed is so close. When Ralph still refuses to go bowling, Ed decides to go fix the sewer. Soon, a sewer employee knocks at Ralph's door looking for Trixie. He says that there has been an explosion in the sewer and Norton has been hurt. Ralph realizes that if he had agreed to go bowling with Ed, the accident would not have happed. Ralph immediatey rushes to the hospital.

At the hospital, Norton is in the waiting area, waiting to be discharged. The doctor tells him that he was very lucky to not be injured worse. Norton is directed down the hall to the checkout area. At this time, a new patient is wheeled into Norton's old room. Ralph rushes into the waiting area, asking for room 317. The nurse tells Ralph that no visitors are allowed, and that the patient is waiting for a transfusion. Ralph assumes the worst and offers to give the patient the transfusion. The doctor agrees, as long as Ralph has bloodtype A. Ralph is taken to another room to prepare for the transfusion.

Norton returns to the waiting after being checked out. Alice and Trixie meet him at the door. They ARE elated to see him in good condition. Alice suggests that they get a cup of coffee. Norton agrees, and says he will meet them as soon as the nurse returns with the watch he left in the room while getting treatment. Ralph is then wheeled in a hospital bed, right by Norton, into the transfusion room. When Ed asks what Ralph is doing at the hospital, Ralph responds that he was here to give Norton a transfusion. The two restore their friendship, and all is back to normal.
